Mode of Study

The mode of study is by Dissertation/ Thesis only. Altough research is the principal requirement for attaining a higher degree, students are also required to pass a Research Methodology course, give seminar presentations, present papers at conferences and publish research articles in journals as part of the programme requirements.


Each candidate will be supervised by established and experienced academicians based on their fields of study. Please refer to for further information.

Research Intent

Applicants for higher degree programmes by research are required to submit a brief statement of the research programme which they propose to carry out. The proposal should comprise the following elements:-
   •  Field of Research
   •  Topic of Research
   •  Statement of Problem (with supportive literature)
   •  Research Objective
   •  Research Methodology
   •  Significant of the Research
   •  References (if applicable))

The research proposal should contain maximum 1,000 words.

Academic Year

The academic year commences in September (Semester 1) and in February (Semester 2). Registration for programmes by dissertation/ thesis is open throughout the year.

Admission Requirements

A good Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree (CGPA 3.00 and above) from local / international universities recognized by the Malaysian Government or other recognized professional qualification approved by the University’s Senate which is equivalent to the Master’s Degree.

Language Requirements

For international candidates whose degree is from a university where the medium of instruction is not English, a minimum score in one of the standard language tests is required:

  1. TOEFL (paper-based) – 550 or more
  2. TOEFL (computer-based) – 213 or more
  3. TOEFL (internet-based) – 80 or more
  4. IELTS (Academic) – Score of Band 5.5 or higher

Academic session 2018/2019 until 2020/2021
Citizen: RM 16,402.00
Non-citizen: RM 31,185.00
