Dr Low Wah Yun, PhD, is the Deputy Executive Director (Research & Internationalisation), Asia-Europe Institute at the Universiti Malaya. She is a Chartered Psychologist and a Professor of Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Prof. Low was the former Head, Research Management Center, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Malaya, and Chair of the Universiti Malaya Research Ethics Committee (non-medical). She was the Deputy Director, Research Services Unit, Institute of Research Management and Innovation, Universiti Malaya, and was also the Head of the Scholarly Publication and Support Unit, at the University.
She graduated with a BA (Hons) from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and subsequently obtained her MSc under the British High Commissioner Award and a Commonwealth scholar for her PhD program in medical psychology from the University of Surrey, Guildford, England.
Prof. Low is actively engaged in teaching, research, service and consultancy. She served as a research consultant for international agencies, such as World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), UNDP, UNFPA, Asia Foundation, International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), pharmaceutical companies, non-governmental organizations as well as to the local authorities (various governmental ministries). Currently, she is involve in the Erasmus+ multi-partnered joint project on capacity building in higher education in Laos PDR. She published extensively, particularly in the areas of behavioral science, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, men’s health and aging.
Prof. Low sits in also a member of many learned societies. She is currently the President-elect of the Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH), and President of the Malaysian Association for Scientific Research in Psychiatry and Behavioural Medicine. She also sits in a few editorial boards of journals. Currently, Prof. Low is the Editor-in-Chief of the Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health (www.apjph.sagepub.com).
