The two vibrant parliamentary democracies, India and Malaysia observe 65 years of their togetherness in diplomatic history. Linkages between the two countries at various levels thrived for centuries.
India-Malaysia Enhanced Strategic Partnership, established in 2015 has a bright future now. The thriving people to people linkages and vibrant cultural exchanges will continue to inject more energy into the relationship. The complementarities of the two economies offer numerous possibilities. The priorities of Malaysian government, such as digital economy, equitable healthcare, renewable energy and competencies of Indian companies in digital technologies, fintech and renewable energy offer great synergies for partnership. Similarly, Malaysian companies with their competencies in construction, infrastructure, electronics manufacturing have huge opportunities in India’s ambitious infrastructure expansion plans and semiconductor Mission. Huge prospects are apparent in the Partnership on Technical and Vocational Educational and Training, (TVET), workforce requirement, skill development and technological advancement. This occasion provides an opportunity for India and Malaysia to introspect and take mutually beneficial initiatives to further consolidate the partnership.
His Excellency B.N. Reddy belongs to the 1993 batch of the Indian Foreign Service. He has had varied experience of diplomatic assignments, having served in Indian Missions in Indonesia (1995-1998), Lao PDR (1998-2002), US (2005-2008), Malaysia (2008-2011), Switzerland (2013-2016) and Nigeria (2017-2018). He was the Chef de Cabinet in the Office of Minister for External Affairs from 2011 to May 2013. He headed the International Cooperation Division in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from February 2019 to 15th September 2021.
H.E. Reddy did his Intermediate schooling from Andhra Loyola College, graduated from B.I.T.S Pilani in 1987 in Mechanical Engineering, and M.Tech (Thermal Engineering) from IIT, Mumbai in 1991.
H.E. B.N. Reddy was born on 1st June 1966. He speaks Telegu, Hindi, Sanskrit and Bhasa Indonesia. He is married to Mrs. Lalita Devi and they have two children, one son and one daughter.
Dr Rahul Mishra is the Director, CARUM, and Coordinator of the European Studies Programme at the Asia-Europe Institute, Universiti Malaya. He is also the Managing Editor of the AEI Insights journal. Dr Mishra specialises in politico-security affairs of the Southeast and East Asian region, ASEAN-EU regionalism, comparative regionalism, and the role of major & middle powers in the Indo-Pacific region, especially in the context of China’s rise. Prior to this, he was a Consultant with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. He has also worked with the ICWA and the IDSA for four years each. Recipient of the Asia Fellowship of the East-West Center in Washington D.C., Korean and the Australian Government Fellowships, he was previously affiliated with the RSIS (NTU) and NUS as well.
