The EU and ASEAN: Faced with the Choice of Democracy or Populism

About H.E. Frédéric LAPLANCHE

H.E. Frédéric LAPLANCHE started his career as a desk officer for four years from 1997 to 2000 at the Asia and Oceania department, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2000, he became the first secretary at the French Embassy in Beijing, People’s Republic of China before moving on in 2004 to become the Deputy Head of the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan.

He was based in Taiwan for almost four years before becoming the Head of the Far East Division at the Asia and Oceania Department, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2009. He then become the Head of the Far East Division at the Asia and Oceania Department, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2009 to 2011. He was once again back in Taiwan this time as the Head of Office for the European Economic and Trade Office in Taiwan from 2011 to 2015.

In 2015, he became the Adviser to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia and Americas. He was the adviser for almost two years.

In June 2017, H.E. Frédéric LAPLANCHE was appointed as the Ambassador of France to Malaysia.
