ASEAN-EU in Dialogue: Learning from Each Other

In the field of higher education, Erasmus+ supports a few main Actions targeting cooperation with Partner Countries. These include the Jean Monnet activities which aim to stimulate teaching, research and reflection in the field of European Union studies worldwide. In 2017, the Asia-Europe Institute (AEI), Universiti Malaya became the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (JMCoE). With this designation, the Asia-Europe Institute is now recognised as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for three years from 2017. Read More

ASEAN-EU Dialogue Webinar Series 3: People and Culture

3rd Dec 2020 at 3pm MYT • The 2020 Year of ASEAN Identity was launched in January by the Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, His Excellency Kung Phoak at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The underlying idea of the ASEAN Identity which was introduced at the Bali Concord II in 2003 was the effort to create a stronger regional connection with the people of all the member countries. In this webinar that focuses on the theme ‘People and Culture’, the panellists will discuss trade and migration issues as well as cultural cleavages and experiences’; integral aspects in the shaping of an ASEAN identity.

On April 10, 2018, H.E. Cristiano Maggipinto, the Ambassador of Italy delivered a public lecture at the Asia-Europe Institute (AEI) titled “Italy and ASEAN: Political, Cultural and Economic Prospects of a New Relationship”. The Jean Monnet Ambassador Lecture series is a regular lecture series hosted by the AEI with the aim of fostering dialogue and knowledge sharing between the EU diplomatic mission in Malaysia and the general public as well as students and academicians in particular.

[Report] Comparative Regionalism Workshop 2018: Bridging Regional Knowledge

Asia-Europe Institute (AEI) hosted the Comparative Regionalism Workshop 2018 as part of its activities as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on April 6 and 7, 2018. The workshop was titled Bridging Regional Knowledge and was conducted by invited lecturer, Dr Paul Gillespie. Dr Gillespie is the Deputy Director at the Institute of British-Irish Studies, and a Senior Research Fellow adjunct in the School of Politics and International Relations, University of College Dublin.
